Crowdfunding for List Enhancements

June 17, 2025 08:15 AM - By Jordan Fields

Several libraries have reached out to Grove about enhancements they would like to see to Aspen lists. These requests include the following:

Hierarchical List Organization in the Patron Account
When librarians manage hundreds of lists within their account, it becomes difficult and time-consuming to find the list they want to work with. This development would allow lists to be organized into groups with a nested hierarchy, similar to a file structure, to make finding the list or lists a staff member or patron wants to work on easier.

Additional Sort Criteria for Titles Within a List
When viewing a list in Aspen Discovery, users can currently sort the titles in the list by title, date added, recently added, and user defined.

This development would add additional options of sorting by author, call number, and total checkouts. This development would apply when viewing a list from list search results and from lists in Your Lists in a user's account.

Allow List Entries to be Hidden when the Title No Longer Exists in Aspen

When a title is deleted from a library catalog, it still exists in a list in Aspen, but the entry is greyed out with very little information. Sometimes this is helpful for a list, such as when a list includes all titles in a series. However, sometimes libraries would prefer if titles that are no longer available to patrons did not appear in lists. With this development, when a user is editing a list, they will have the option to hide titles that are no longer available from the library.

Make Lists More Printer Friendly
Lists are something that both patrons and library staff want to print physical copies of. Aspen currently offers a Print List option when viewing a list; however, it does not offer a way to format lists that is optimized for printing. Furthermore, the details and layout for a title when printing a list is inconsistent depending on whether the title on the list is available in one format or multiple formats. With this development, Aspen will now include a dialog screen that will allow users to customize how their list will print.

How to Contribute

A full specification is available for this feature on request.

If you have additional enhancements you would like to make to lists in Aspen, let us know and we'd be happy to work on a specification for your idea.

This development is partially funded.
